Tim Downey

Tim has an extensive history in all facets of construction over many years. He started his professional career apprenticing on numerous projects in both construction and woodworking throughout the Burlington area . In 1978 he was offered the opportunity to start and operate a woodworking/cabinetry business in the Farm Barn at Shelburne Farms.  The shop was passed on  to his partner in 1982 and remains active to this day.   A move to the Turks and Caicos islands in the British West Indies in 1982 provided a rewarding and challenging opportunity to establish a general contracting  business  building single family vacation homes.  He returned to Vermont  in 1984 to establish  and co own City Builders ,a general contracting firm  concentrating primarily on  renovations in Chittenden County. An opportunity presented itself  to partner with a Burlington based cabinet shop and  provide custom cabinetry and finishes for commercial and residential projects in Manhattan and this evolved into a  general contracting  branch of City Builders  being established in New York City, successfully partnering with various architects and  completing numerous projects over the next number of years. Tim’s City Builders partner  switched professions in 1990 and  the subsequent years were spent as a sole proprietor until 1996  when Tim partnered with George Imbrie to form Imbrie /Downey Inc. A Design/Build firm with 6-10 employees active from 1996 to 2013 with numerous and varied projects throughout Northern Vermont. Imbrie Downey started and operated Vermont Green Cabinets from 2004 to 2013 specializing in sustainable custom cabinetry with projects throughout the region. Tim looks forward to bringing his diverse range of skills to your project.
